THE HAMILTON SITTINGS. (Per Press Association— Copyright) HAMILTON, June 6. Tho criminal sessions of the Hamilton Supreme Court opened this morning before Mr. Justice Cooper. James Tarei, a native, was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour for burglary at Rotorua. Tho case of John Clements, a returned soldier, who had pleaded guilty in tho Lower Court to forging and uttering at Cambridge, was allowed to stand down to see whetner the Defence Department would accept Mm for active service. Daniel .Leonard Morris, charged with alleged theft at Hamilton, was found not guilty and was discharged. Robin Jasper Crago, tlio Waikeru prison escapee, who attempreu to seize a taxi from Frederick James Peebles by placing a cord round his neck and drawing tho same tight until he became unconscious was arraigned on charges of attempted murder, intending to inflict serious bodily harm, doing actual bodily harm, and common assault. His Honor directed the jury that the evidence was nor sufficient to warrant it in finding the prisoner guilty in tho first count.-' After a retirement of one hour the jury found the prisoner guilty on all counts, with the exception of attempted murder. Crago was sentenced to five years’ additional reformative treatment
