A PATHETIC CASE,
WELLINGTON, June'6
A pathetic case came before Mr. Reid, S.M., in respect to the maintenance of a returned soldier who appeared in uniform, obviously suffering acutely from tuberculosis'. He was proceeded against for the maintenance of a relative at tlio Porirua Mental Hospital. Tlio soldier said it was hardly iworth while proceeding -with the matter for lie was suffering from consumption and the doctors did not think that he would live more than two months. The slagistrate promptly adjourned tho case sine die.

Sir Jas. Wilson lias received a cablegram from his son, Mr. R. A. Wilson wife is serving with tlio Royal Siege Artillery (Imperial Forces) in Franco, that he lias boon promoted to major and given charge of a battery. He had boen serving, in tho Battle of Arras. Tin’s shows how quickly promotion comes in active service these days, as Major Wilson has only been eight months at tho front, and in the artillery forces promotion is proverbially slow.

The Union Steamship Company, has receivod official ndvice that it is intended to create a colonial registry for P and O stock, hold in New Zealand and Australia. P and O dividends to holders in New Zealand will bo paid free of English income tax. The position of preference shareholders in New Zealand will not ho altered.
