A man named Wm. Reynolds was oharged with assaulting Bert Farker and it was mentioned at the time that Parker’s ccmditionwas serious. An operation to relieve the pressure on the brain was performed at the hospital, but the patient died and it is probable that Reynolds will now be charged with manslaughter.

REMARKABLE DIVORCE CASE Damages Doubled Wellington, June I At the Supreme Court, before Mr Justice Hoskingand a jury of twelve, George Sydney Kerr,' of Trenthara, quartermaster-armourer-sergeant petitioned for divorce against his wife, Harriet Kerr. The petition was allowed. The parties were married on 7th February, 1906, at Blenheim, and there was one child of the marriage. On or about July and August, 1916, Mrs Kerr frequently committed adultery with Raymond Victor Bythelf. In addition to the dissolution of marriage, the petitioner asked that co< respondent be made to pay the sum of £SOO. damages. The wrong-doing wag admitted by the defence but it was contended that It was caused by the cruelty and neglect of the husband. The point at issne was the question of damages. .The jury returned a verdict for petitioner for £IOOO damages, £SOO more than was asked for. The jury recommended that a substantial amount be sot aside for the child, By consent of counsel the motion for judgment was adjourned to enable legal points of the verdict to be argued in Chambers.
