EFFECT OF NEW ARMY ORDER.
Sir Francis '(Lloyd’s order prohibiting officers and men supping after 10 p.m. has practically killed the supper trade in 'the West End of iLondjon. At the Picadilly catering for suppt-is liay been stopped altogether only residents in (the hotel being supplied with a meal. At the Criterion thet greater pant of whose supper trade was witn officers the manager stated- that tney could serve 'bona-fide travellers. Just on 10 o’clock a few days ago he had to stop an Australian officer and ask him the usual question. “Bona-fide traveller!” said the colonial. “Good gracious, man, I’ve juslfc come 12,000 miles to fight for the Old Country.” However, the traveller could’nt have his meal.
At Friscati’s the manager said that the supper trade was now so negligible that lie thought the principal West End caravanseries could safely cioso down alt 10.30 p.m. without causing any public inconvenience.
A very striking public commentary on the new order occurred lately at a •well-known fish restaur at. Very rtlucftantly the management had to refuse to admit a group of Canadian soldiers just on 10 o’clock. The people realising what had happened, immediately get up from their tables paid their bills and walked out in a body.
