Manslaughter Charge.
Hastings, May 26 At the adjourned inquest on Ruperl Money, a newspaper runner, Mr S. E M’Garthy, Corouer, found: —‘'That cJ\:c---s: d ; 0., the aftetn. ou of M»y 23, was killed through being run over by e motor car when being driven by Wbaitgarca Winbana ; that ibe said Wbaingaroa Wiribana was negligent in such drivir g, in that be failed to sound his horn, other traffic then beirg in the immediate vicinity; that he failed to keep a reasonable lookout for such other tieffic ; that be was driving at an excessive rate of speed. I further find that negligence was the immediate cause of deceased's death.” Wirihaua was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He was remanded on bail, himself in £IOO and two sureties of £SO each.
Curtailed hailway Service
Christchurch, May 22 The curtailment of the railway services between Lytfelton and Christchurch have caused undue delay to shipping, by reason of the fact that work ends at 6 o’clock owing to there being no late tram to enable the waterside workers, onst of whom live in Christchurch and the suburbs, to get back home if they work after that hour. The limited , ervice has also had a hampering effect on the business life of tbe community. Representations to the Railway Department and Ministers having h id no rfßalt, a. public meeting of proteßfc was held to-day. The gathering was a large and representative one. A motion was carried calling upon the Go* vernmaut to immediately restore certain might trains, and an influential deputation was appointed to proceed to Wellington in the event of a satiefactory reply not being forthcoming.
Struck by Lightning. Wiiangarei, May 26 Daring a heavy thunderstorm yesterday afternoon a Maori, 50 years of age, named Matthew H..rowera, en* gaged on road work at Akerama, 20 miles north of Whangarei, sheltered under a kabikatea tree atnd was struck by lightning. He was killed instantly. Ho leaves a widow.
