Mr J. E. Winsioe, a land commission agent, of Gore, Mr Geo. Efier, travelling agent of Stonie & Co , of Inveroargill, and Mr L. C. Robinson, Inspector of the South British Insurance Co,, were return ; ng from Maudevilla district, where they had been drafting eheep when their car, driven by Robinson, skidded and capsized. Otago Floods

Gore, May 30

With tha exception of one side of the street, which is low-lying, the flood waters have completely disappeared from tha streeis- Tho damage to shops and business places is not serious, only the silt remaining. The stocks suffered no damage. Light and power were cut off from Mataura but it is expected to be resumed on Friday night. A fire engine was employed in pamping the water from Gore reservoir; Business is proceeding' as usua’.

War Funds

Wellington, May 26

The Hon G. W. Russel), chairman of the War Fonda Council, has receive ed a cheque from £IOOO from Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co, for the national war fund administered by the connoil, which now totals £25.000. Tha Council administers the affairs of the Westland and Bullrr districts, which have banded ovor to it the whole of their funds, the local patriotic committees being advisory committees in allocation of grants amongst returned soldiers and dependents. There Is a possibility of the Greymouth district joining the scheme, in which case the whole of the patriotic funds of the W6sfc Coast will be administered by the National War Fnod Counci.
