EMPIRE DAY
Speech by Sir James Allen Chuis'ichurch, May 24 Empire Day was celebrated by a large gathering to- .igbt in the Co'oeseuth. The D.C M. was presented to Rifleman Nimmo by Sir James Alien, who delivered an address on Imperial matters and New Zealand’s part thereiD, He emphasised the effect the war wus having in building the diff-reat parts of tho Empire together and expressed his conviction that in the futuie there would be some form of Council of Empire in which the Do. minione would be represented, and have a say iu regard to war and peace.
• Mr L, M. Isitt, M P., spoke on the need to rouse a deeper spirit of patriotism in the people. Tbe Hon W. Angus, of Melbourne, also spoke, and gave £SO to the Aeroplane Fund. He expressed bis belief that if thß conscription issue wers placed again before the people of Australia it would be carried.
