In addtion to tlio two largo cargo steamers of tlio Union Company trading between Now Zelaand and the Pacific coast of the United States and Canada recently reqisitioned by the Imperial Government two others of the oompnay’s steamers* have been taken over by the Imperial Governmment. This means a severe curtailing of trade and will cause grave inconvenience to New Zealand newspapers many of which obtain the whole of their paper supplies from Canada'. Remanded. Gisborne, May 17 A fashionably dressed native woman was charged ,to-day wifcb forging her hnßband’s name to orders on trades people. In applying for a remaud Detective MoLeod stated a considerable * urn was involved, and the accused admitted taking forged cheques up to £2,000. The accused was remanded.
