A New Regulation.
A cew regulation in respeot to passports of people urciving in the Dominion came into operation on May 1. Previously visitors to New Zea* land were ullowed to retain their passports, but under the new regulation the passport must, on airival, be banded to the Customs authorities, who will issue a receipt for it, On leaving the Dominion the receipt must be returned to the Customs iu exchauga for the passport. Oa arrival, a ! so, the visitor— unless from Australia—must sign a declaration stating when be in* tends to leave New Zealand, The passport, under the new regulations, expires on the date giveu by the bolder, unless extended by the Minister of Internal Affairs on application prior to the date of ex my. In the case of visitors from Austr. lia, it is net necsssary to state the date of roreturn, the bolder bting rtqaired to make application for the retu n of tha permit forty-sight hqu-s before the sailiug of ilie vetß:l by which ho desires to travel.
