WAR BONUS GRANTED

To Captains and Mates.

The captains and mates of the “ mosquito ” fleet have been granted a war bonus of £3 per month, all round, during the period of the war, by the members of the Shipownera’ Federation.

Captain F, A. Macindoe, secretary cf the Merchant Service Guild, > informed a “ New Zealand Times ” representative that ho bad been advised by-the Shipowners’ Federation that in erder to denote their good feeling towards the shipmasters and officers of all steamers under 600 tons register and appreciation of their loyalty during the present times of stress, the federation has seen its way clear to accept the suggestion by the Merchant Service Guild that they will carry od the present agreement during the period of the war, and will grant a war bonus of £3 a month all round to masters, and also to both first and second mates. The war bonus is to be paid as from March Ist last, so that at the end of this month the captains and mates will all have an additional £9 to draw with their wages. The existing agreement dates from August 22nd, 11915, and was to expire on next August 2nd. Aoo:rdmg to the aboye terms this agreement will continue in operation until the termination of the war. Those who will benefit by the above will ba the masters and mates of a'l the vessels owned by the Anchor Shipping and Fonudry Co. of Nelson, Can. terbury Shipping Co, Chatham Islands Fishing Co., Johnston' and Co., Karamea Steamship Co., Levin and Co. Richardson and Co., South Taranak Co., Wellington Wanganui Steam Packet Co,, and the steamers Opawa, Wairau, Wootton, John, Tainui, Opouri, Orepuki, Waverley, Defender, and two or three others.
