POLLARD’S PICTURES

“ The Old Folks at Home ” and the big national picture “ The Battle Cry of Peace,” comprising 10,000 feet of star film, gives an idea to patrons of the splendid bill of fare to be presented by Pollard's Pictures on Monday evening. Add to this the appearance of England’s actor idol, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, in a leading role and it can be claimed that no better display has ever been screened in Hokitika, In “ The Old Folks at Home ” a simple heart appealing incident in the heart of an old conple is told. From the bright sunny paths of their sweetheart days they have lived in harmony and happiness and it is only when home meanß more than ever to them that they have to leave it and pnt np a strenuous fight for their son’s life. It is in the latter scenes that the great talent of Eogland’s favourite actor, Sir Herbert Tree, shows itself in its tine worth.

“Th 9 Battle Cry of Peace ” the second star feature is the picture that roused America to her no preparedness, by showing what, would happen ia the- evi nt of a GLrman invasion. The producers (the Yitagraph Blue Ribbon Feature Company) have gone to unprecedented lengths to attain a convincing atmosphere of realism, and the actnal sinking nf a cruiser and two destroyers in a big naval battle off Sandy Hook, aad the occupation of New York are some of the startling of the maay extraordinary happenings that so impressed the American Government that one hundred million pounds was placed upon the estimates to make the American Navy the second beat navy in the world.
