/PEK FBEBB ASSOCIATION. —COPTBISHTj. MONOWAI EXPLOSION Payment, of Costs Wellington, April 28 The Royal Commission which investigated tba came of an explosion of sulphuric acid from a drum which was being unloaded from the steamer Monowai in Auckland, when several men were severely injured recommended that, if possible, a Melbourne firm which placed the acid in drams with dsfeotive bungs should be ordered to pay the costs of the inquiry. The Commission expressed a doubt as to whether this could be en r orced, bat added that if it was legally possible they were prepared to make such an order. The Hon G. W. Russell, Minister af Marine, informs me that the matter was referred tetho Crown Law Office, which reported that it is impossible to legally recover costs from the Australian firm, therefori the matter cannot be pursued.
