Mr H. S. Well*?, writing to “The Times,” advocates *liat the time is ripe for an organisation with the object of encouraging Republican movements in Oenfcfal Europe. Ha suggests a series of Republican Societies in the chief towns of Britain to express sympathy with their fe low republicans abroad, to form tho baris of more purposeful activities, whioh need not ooofkcfc with loyalty to the Throne, while giving a clear expression of the great volume of Republican feeling always in the breasts of the British community. He declares it would be an agreeable thing to the Allies.
The Times editorially comments that tbe letter shows how clever men sometimes write very foolishly. The paper characterises the Republican manifestations in Britain as absurd.
