WESTLAND RACING CLUB.
COMMITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the committee of the above Club was held at the Post Office -Hotel last evening, the President (Mr W. E. Williams) occupying the chair. The treasurer’B statement in connection with the recent, race meeting showed the receipts to have been £1169 19s The expenditure was £llsl 18s Bd, thus 7 leaving a credit balance of £lB Os 4d. amount paid \in Government taxation was: general receipts £5 18s 4d; totalisator receipts, £129 10s 6d; dividend tax, £ll6 13s; stakes (tax, £7; a total of £259 Is. The statement was received and adopted.
In the course of oomment, it was remarked that considering the increase in stakes, the weather, and the pall of the strike hanging over the Coast, the result of the meeting must be considered very satisfactory. The chairman stated that the visitors to the meeting had greatly enjoyed the gathering, and the Club was corn, plimented on all sides on tlie completeness of the arrangements for the day. The visiting deputy stipendiary steward had also expressed his ( , satisfaction with the conduct of the meetings The assistance given by the local branch of the Red Cross Sooiety in the conduct of the ambulance room was very favourably commented on, and a vote of £3 3s was passed to the iveci Cross Funds.
Votes of thanks were passed to tho ladies for (the success with which the tea rooms had been conducted. it was stated the public had greatly appreciated the manner in which the service was carried through, and a substantial profit had been returned. inward correspondence. From Minister of Internal Affairs, acknowledging invitation to attend tho (Easter meeting.—Received. From chairman, Racing Conference, regretting he would not bo able to attend the Autumn race meeting.—Received. From N.Z. Racing Conference, notifying annual meeting would be held in July, and all notices of motion should be in by 9th June.—Received. From same, indicating the result or the recent reference to Racing Clubs el the proposa) to curtail racing, and stating that a substantial majority favoured the maintenance of the sport unless 'it was shown it interfered with military service.—Received. From the President of N.Z. Country Racing Clubs’ Association, forwarding copy of letter sent to the National Efficiency Board on the subject of the prohibition or reduction of racing days. Received and approved. From R. Patterson, Westport, notifying candidature for Racing Gonierence, and asking for support.—Received and referred to tlie chairman. It was resolved, to forward a lefeer of thanks to Mr D. H. Roberts for his gift of tho fine enlarged photograph of the Westland Racing Club’s Jubilee Gold Cup, won by his horse, Kiljoy in January last, and to say how much lifs action was appreciated. A copy of the stipendiary steward's favourable report on tho trotting events at the race meeting was received •wif.li thanks.
The chairman complimented the officials on the manner in which they had discharged their duties at the meeting.
