Macdonald arrived on Saturday to confer with the miners on the strike in tho Culler, District. The secretary jof the Australasian .. Coal and Shale Employees’ Federation has circularised the lodges sympathising with the New Zealand miuers,.und asking trade unionists to stand heaind and support their fellow workers. 'The secretary, referring to the remarks of the Labour Council, states that unless an attempt is made to tupply New Zealand with coal from Australia', there is no likelihood of tho trouble extending. Camp SickneseWELLINGTON, April 18. The amount of sickness in the military camps at the present time is less than a quarter of the amount rocorded for the corresponding period last year. The position is regarded by ' the medical authorities as, very satisfactory. There are no cases of measles in the hospitals, and colds and influenza are not prevalent. An epidemic of gastro enteritis was experienced at Featherston this time last year, but has not recurred. It is considered that sickness is likely to increa.se with the approach of winter, hut. the indications are that the position will be better than in tho other war winters.
