Sunday Trading.
AUCKLAND, April 12,
In the Police Court to-day Mr Kettle, S-M.. delivered his judgment in the cases wherein fourteen keepers of of drinks with meals or afternoon tea, eel with Sunday trading, in that they sold soft drinks.
The judgment was that though no objection could bo taken to the supply of drinks will meals or afternoon tea, the supply of such by themselves could not be considered a work of necessity.
Ah the practice bad been permitted for a number of years the Magistrate imposed no penalty, entering a conviction only.
Painters Conference. Wanganui April 11 The Dominion Conference of the New Zealand Federation of Painters and Decorators concluded to-day. It waa resolved that the national executive should take a billot of efilitated membars on the question of cancelling their registration under the Industrial, Conciliation and Arbitration Aot, and further it was decided to uree all affiliated unions to seek affiliation with the United Federation of LabourThe Conference also passed a motion stressing the need for legislation to prohibit the use of white lead in paints, owing to i s injurious effect on the workers.
