A Staggering Blow LONDON, April 10. Phillip Gibbs telegraphing on the 10 says the Battle, of Arras was the gi'ea l est victory the British have yet gained. It was a staggering blow to the enemy As the Germans were retreatng our guns smashed them along all the roads. The. Canadians during the night won Hill 140, the last point of Vimy Ridge, where the Germans held out in a pocket, with machine guns. By the morning the whole ridge was in our hands. Tlio Canadian attack on Monday was astoundingly successful and was carried out 'by the high spirited men, with a joyous confidence of victory. They marched out at dawn cheering and laughing, through the mud and rain. They followed close upon the artillery barrage and by 6.30 had taken the* first goals, including the front lino system above Neuvillo St. Vaas'fc and Lafollio farm to Thelus, where the resistance was fiercest.
