White Island in EriuptionGisborne, April 9 When the pteamer Tarawera was abreast of White Island at 530 o’clock yesterday morning, the chief officer observed a volcpnio eruption. Flames were shooting skyward, accompanied by fljiig stones and debris which were soon enveloped in dense clouds of vapour. The Military BallotWellington, April 9 The ballot for the shortage of men for the 30ch Reinforcements commences at two o’clock to-morrow. The shortage amounts to about 1000, and to provide for rejects 300 names will be drawn. .■>
