A Small cow and calf runs up to £4O and £45, whereas three years ago £l2 to £ls was a good price. A yearling colt, if good, will fetch £4O, 2 and 3 year olds go up to £BO, Bacon fetches 18/ti £T. per score alive. Eggs are 3£d each, baney mcal-ls £2 per hag, Hop r £3 5/ per saeks, beef 1/6 par lb, bacon 1/10 per lb, ham 2/4, tea 2/4 to 3/6, sugar 6£d lb, potatoes 20/ per cwt, and very scarce.
A very pleasing ceremony was held at Rugg’s Hotel Kiimara, when the boarders together with other lady and gentlemen friends assembled for tilts purposo of farowelling Messrs -A. Fleming son of Mr. Fleming of the Lands Department Hokitika and G. Harris of the staff of the Kumara post and telegraph office. Presentations were made to both young men. The former left to take up his duties in a . similar position at Auckland and the latter comes to Hokitika. Both young men. who are favourable known were always courteous and obliging. All the Canterbury and North lalaud hotsea engaged at the rsee meeting here on Wednesday next have arrived on the Coast. There is thus the daaurar.ce of very good fields, as the entry list is a slroDg one throughout, The course and grounds are in excellent order, ard the accommodation provided for the public is now very ample, The now entrance for pedestrians will bo appreciated, and will prevent undue crushirg and crowding.
