WESTLAND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Monday, April 2. The Board met at 7.45 p-m, Present:—Messrs A. Clifton (Chairman), R. Wild, F. McGregor, A. Hutchison, A. H. Richards. H. Norman, J. Grimmond. The minutes of th 6 previous meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspondence read and approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Secretary, in reference to tw° accounts in connection with the carriage of a patient to Chriatchurcb. After explanation, the Bea'd resolved not to recognise the accounts and ( o refer them to iha person on who.-*; liehalf they ware incuired. From Treasurer, reporting receipts £694 13/2, payments £720 7y6, debit bank balenoe £1425 17/. —Received. The Chairman reported in connection with a quantity of correspondence dealing with the use of a shelter at Cashmere sanatorium. Received. The aotiop of the Chairman was approved, in arranging for a local resident to oocupy the shelter. From Hon W. Fraser, Minister of Pnblio Works replying to deputation that met him at Waiho, asking for a medical officer in South Westland,, and stating the Dapartment of Health reported that there was no prospect of

a medical, officer being obtained until tbe war had ended,—Received. laformation aaked for to be supplied. From Inspector-General of Hospitals, Wellington, asking for returns. —Received and attended to. From Same, stating the alteration to the personnel of the Board would not come into force unt>l the County Council elections took place in November next. —Received. From E. Gibb, Waiknkupa, forwarding terms agreed to for services of the District Nurse by the South Westland executive.—Received and approved. From Education Department, asking for payment of maintenance due on indigent persons.—Reoeived and attended to. From Knmara Committee, enclosing accounts £9B 17/8 for period.— Received. From Surgeon Superintendent, Enmara Hospital, reporting patients on Ist Maroh 30, admitted 9. Total treated 39. Discharged 8, remaining on 31st March 31 _ patients.—Reoeived, From Totara Committee, forwarding receipts £197 18/8. —Received and a vote of thanks passed for the excellent return. From Otira Committee, forwarding accounts and a quantity of correspondence dealing wi.h erection of telephone connection and with somtf disputes between present and late secretary.—Received. From Matron G.llespie, Otira, in reference to illness of housemaid.— Received. The Chairmen expressed his regret at the illness of an excellent

official. Prom Same, reporting for February there were two in patients and 88 out patients treated and for March 3 in patients and 73 ont patients treated. —Received. A number of formal letters wer® received. Accounts amounting to £7BO were passed for payment. The House Committee reported everything was satisfactory at Westland Hospital.—Received. Mr Wild stated that this was the last meeting of the present Board and he was glad to take the opportunity of placing on reoord his opinion that though there had been many differences of opinion he wai satisfied that ail members bad done their utmost to farther the interests of the Board and the particular districts that they represented. He moved that Messrs Richards, McGregor, Hutchison and the Secretary be a Committee to arrange a benefit in aid of Westland Hospital building fund.—Seconded by Mr Richards and carried, Mr Griromond moved that the necessary notice ia nccordanos with the agreement be given to Dr Fleming to terminate his engagement with the Board as medical officer at Kuraara and Otira. —Seconded by Mr Wild and carried. Mr Norman moved that a vote of thanks be reoordod on the minutes to the retiring members (Messrs Wild, McGregor and Richards) for their care and attention to the work of the Board.—Seconded by Mr Clifton and carried. Tbs members briefly acknowledged the vote. The Board rose at 9.15 p.m.
