Per Press Association.--Copyright. Police Changes. Wellington, March 30 The following police changes were notified to-day : Sergeant Simpson, of Darmevirke, to be Senior Sergeant and transferred
to Greymouth, in rlaes of Senior Sergeant Egan, transfstred fo Timarn. Sergeant Tell, of Newmarket, is to be Senior Sergeant and transferred *o Hawera, vice Senior Sergeant McNsily, transferred to Auckland. Sergeant Ecclea (Te Kuiti) Sergeant Mcßorie (Waatpoit), and Sergeant Onmmicga (Rotorua) are all promoted to the rack of Senior Sergeant. £750 Damages Awarded Mastehton, March 23 A case of considerable local interest has occupied the Sapreme Court for the lest three days, and was concluded this evening. Thomas Jones, motor agent, claimed £2OOO dsmages from Davin Foreman, a farmer for nsalioionsly, falsely, and without reasonable cause, laying a complaint against the r plaintiff that he waa the father of a certain illegitimate child. The com-
plaint was withdrawn after proceedings had been taken against Foreman, who was adjudged by the Magistrate to be the father of the child in question^ M's T. M. Wilford appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Gray, K.C., for the defendant. The evidence was similar to that given in the case against Foreman in the Lower Court. The jury, after a retirement of about threequarters of an hour, returned a verdict for the plaintiff, and awarded him £750 damages. Auckland, March 31 The Kaitaia inquest regarding the death of Mitai Aperahama, whose body was exhumed on March, has been concluded and the following verdict returned by the jury—“ That Mitai Aperahama died oa or about 14 August, 1913 ia Vtcroria Valley, aud that the eight persons arrested, as well as Harita Hura and Pari Horina now dead, and Hori Harima and George Karionow at the war, on or about August 14th, 1913, did cause the death of Mitai Aperahama by suffocation at Victcrlft Va lsy.” Tho ju*y added a rider that Tchnnguism was practised both on the elite of the murder and for along time
previously in Victoria Valley.
