A VIVID NARRATIVE.
Operations Bofora Bigdad (Australian & N,Z. Cable Asooo : a ion and Reuter). LONDON, March 25. Mr Camdlcr, a war correspondent m Mesopotamia, telegraphing from Bagndad, gives this vivid narrative of the midnight battle to secure the crossing of the Diala river : “After the Turks had destroyed the bridge we pushed along tho left bank sending cavalry and two columns of infantry to work round on the right bajuk and enter .Baghdad from ane west.
“One column attacking at the Diala had to force a crossing.
“When our first pontoon was lowered over tho bank the whole launching party was shot down in a few soconos in ithc bright moonlight. “The Turks concentrated their machine guns and rifles in the houses opposite tho bank, and the second ponton reached the middle of the stream, (then its whole crow was killed owing to tho terrible fusilade.”
