WATAUGA STOCK SALE. Messrs Sprot, Jeffries and Co. report having held their annual autumn sale of surplus stock at the above yards on Thursday last, when the entry consti r tuted a rtcord for the yards, and also lor prices.

The yarding totalled 250 sheep and lambs, and 630 head of cattle. The quality of the' cattle was all that could be desired and very seldom equalled in many yards in the Dominion. Messrs Nolan Bros’ and Jno, C'ron’si Hereford stock being a picture. The latter established a record by obtaining £J4 8s Gd per head for liis line of 2J-year Hcrefords, which were secured after keen competition by Mr M. Patrick of Tatare. A line of yearling Hereforas from Mr Jas Nolan brought the top price of £7 4s, these going to Mr D. J. Diedrich.

The record price, £2q 5s each for two shorthorn bullocks sold by Mr Norman Friend (who is in camp tit Treatliam) was paid by Mr Jno. Collett; a funnier pair of the same breed being secured by Mr Collett at £l6 ss. There was a distinct hardening tendency for all classes of stock, competition was forthcoming front buyer’s from Kopum, Totara Flat, Greymouth, Cliristclnircn. and local residents. Fat slieep ana lambs sold well. Owing to the extra large entry we were unable .to conclude our sale on Thursday and continued same on Friday morning, when the prices wero even dearer than on previous day. We effected the following sales:—

SHEEP.—For Messrs A- and T. Mcißride, 52 forward woolly lames at 19s. For Mr Jas. Donovan 34 forward woolly lambs at 20s. For Mr Tlios Nolan, 18 acres swedes, at £2 per acre. CATTLE. —For Messrs Gibb Bros., eight heifers, fat, at £ll 12s Gd; two fat cows alt £ll 10s. For Mr A. H. Egg ling, 17 two and two and a half bullocks at £l2; 10 2-year heifers at £9. For Messrs Nolan Bros., 14 bullocks a:t £l3 12s 6d, 14 di at £ll 2s oa; 11 do at £lO os; one stag at £l3; 11 heifers at £lO 17s 6d; 13 do at £8 10s; ten do .at- £ll. For Mr Jno. Cron, 14 two-year steers at £l2 10s; 15 two and a half-year do at £l4 2s 6d; 8 do at £ll 2s 6d; 9 heifers at £11; eight do at £lO 2s Gd; 6 do at £9 15s; 7 do at £lO 2 S Gd. For Mr N. Friend, 2 G-yr bullocks £2O ss; 2 do at £l6 ss; one at £11; 9 18-mos steers and heifers at £G 17s Gd; one bull at £8; nine 12-mos steers and heifers at £4 7s 6d; four ao at £6 10s; 2 dry cows at £5 2s Gd; 1 heifer ait £4 15s. For Messrs Walsh Bros., 10 fat bullocks at £ll 12s Gd; 2 yearling steers at £6 7s Gd; nine heifers at £lO 12s 6d; six do at £9. For Take Station, 1 three-year steer at £l3 2s Gd; 3 two-year do at £9 12s Gd; 4 cighteen-mos steers at £7; one hull at £4 2s Gd, 3 heifers at £6 7s Gd ; 13 do at £5 10s; 1 fa’t cow at £lo os; 14 cows with eleven suckers at £6 15s; one hull at £6 2s Gd. For Mr. Jas. Nolan, 12 yearling steers and heifers at £7 4s; 3 two year steers at £lO 17s 6d; eight fat cows at £ll 7s Gd; 7 fat heifers at £9 15s. For Mr A. Coopper, sundry cows, forward, at £7 ss; 1 stag at £7; 1 heifer at £5; 1 cow and vealcr at £B.

A fine of cows and calves offered for one vendor were passed, not reselling the reserve, and two lines of cattle advertised wore not able to cross the flooded rivers, 'and consequently failed to yard. ,
