X RAYS PLANT.

Dr. Leatliam, “X” ray specialist of the Ncav Plymouth Hospital, has been commissioned by the New Zealand Government to make an inspection of tho “X” ray plaints of all the liospuais of the Dominion. Tho use of X rays for various purposes in medical diagnosis and treatment has becom© *o much extended, and tho damgers accompanying its nse not always being sufficiently recognised, the health authorities deemed it desirable to have ;>(u inspection made of th e various plants in use. The installations which have been in use for many years are, as a rule, so much out of date that they are to a lei'ge extent valueless, and may do a great deal of damage unless tho proper precautionary measures arc insisted

upon. Dr Leatliam visited tli©: Westland Hospital on Wednesday and inspected the X ray plant of that Institution. He expressed himself as delighted at finding such a complete plant, than which ho said there is nothing better in New Zealand, not even excepting the large centres, such as Auckland and Dunedin. Ho made a very complete examination of it in conjunction with the surgeon superintendent, to whom he made suggestions for its still further improvement. The Rev. H. L. Rcliards, who was recently appointed by tho Methodist Conference to be the assistant of me President of the Conference, will leave for New Plymouth, the new scene of his labours, early in April. On Wednesday next he will conduct a. valedictory service at Ross.
