SEAMEN IN TROUBLE.

The Magistrate’s Court. Grcymor :> was occupied for the greater pant of Tuesday afternoon in the hearing, of charges in which the members of the crew of tee brigaiatine Aratnpua were concerned. Against Edmulnd Nilson (Mr. Sargent) and Kinvin were chained with absenting themselves from their ship without leave, whilst Nilson laid an information against Captain (Rennie charging, the latter with assault. 'Evidence was taken a,t length in which Nil son stated he had requested the master of :tho ship to pay him off at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning last. Nilson also alleged that the crew had noifc had sufficient food at sea and he had that day lodged a complaint with the Collector of Customs on the latter score. Mr T. Hutehisoh, S.M., adjourned lie whole of the charges till Thursday next 'to allow the Collector of Customs to make enquiiy as the law direced, in regard to the alleged insufficiency of food, at the same lime explaining to the defendants that the finding of the Customs official might provide (the defendants Nilson and Kirwin with an excuse in matters of fact, but molt with an excuse in law for being absent from their ship without 'leave. His Worship also impressed, on the parties concerned that leavo must bo given a member of tlffi crow if such leave is requested for the purpose of lodging a complaint anent insufficient rations at sea.
