Bavarian on Food Supply

Doctor Heim, a Bavarian peasants leader, writing to the newspapers, says it would bo bettor for Germany to frankly tell the truth of the food situation, than continue to vrotk on a wrecked system’. There are still 120 days before the new harvest, and even if hunger brought peace to-morrow it would be many months before we could get corn, owing to bad crops. Returned SoldiersWELLINGTON, March 12. Under tlic system instituted by the National Government, employment has already boon found for 1401 returned soldiers. It is satisfactory to note that 1339 signified to the Department •that assistance was not required, and 2,539 did not require assistance for other reasons. New Zealand’s* war pensions’ burden now amounts to £325,039 annual value, an average of £sl over 6,284 pensions.
