LETTER FROM EGYPT.
Dr. Monson, who is we'll known in Hokitika, writing, from Egypt on January 6th, 1917, states he is keeping fit,' and has hail some interesting experiences. He adds: “Had a memorable Christmas and New Year, as you have seen. I was with the troops that bagged the El Irish garrison at Magilababa, and I had charge of the army of wounded, including the Turkish wounded. One of tho Turkish doctors captured told us that the Turks were very sick of things, and that we should not meet any very determined resistance in our march in Syria and Palestine. Wo have had dreadful weather —pouring rain every day, and bitter cold—and as wo were in bivouacs aud had only bully and biscuits it was no joke, I often wished I were hack in Westport. I have been sent here in charge of the Government clearing hospital. We admit about fifty patients a day, and then forward all possible to the base. We also do all emergency operations. We expect a shift up to el Arish in a few days now that this, end is through. We have cleared tho country of Turks for nearly 75 miles, and we have great hopes of getting to Bcerslieba aud Jerusalem in a few months.”
