TERRITORIAL CAMP
The annual training camp for ‘A’ and ‘D’ Companies ol' the North Canterbury and Westland Regiment commences at Waitahu next Friday 2nd. March and will last for seven days. To meet the requirements of many industries that are working short Jtianucd, the camp this year has been reduced from 11 to 7 days. The Ross, Rautapu, Ivanieri, Rimu and Hokitika units will parade at the Drill Shed on Friday morning with kit bags etc at 6.15 a.m., and proceed by 7.40 train to Greyinouth. Lieut. Richardson will be in charge. Men from Arahura, Stafford and Kumara will join the train at wayside stations. On arrival they will join the Troops from Greymouth and north and proceed by special troop trains leaving, at 9.45 a.in arriving at Waitahu at 1 p.m., The afternoon will be devoted to getting the men settled in their lines and after the evening meal, a lecture on Camp Routine, Discipline, and Sanitation will be delivered. The Syllabus of training laid down by the Defence Deparment will commence at 6.30 a.m., on following morning and continue until 4.30 p.m., eacn day. Followed by lectures each evening. Church parades will be held for the various denominations on [Sunday. The Baud of the 13tli Regiment; is expected to arrive at camp from Rangiora on Thursday next and will be a distinct advantage to the -work of .the camp. Though a great many applications have been received for exemption by the officer commanding the Regiment, in every case leave lias been granted from the Waitalm camp only on the understanding that the applicants complete .their training at th e Omoto Casual Camp on the 26th April. Branches of the Post and Telegraph Army .Service, Red Cross and Ambulance Corps will be in attendance at
camp. Lieut. A. V. Williams, Adjt. of the (Regiment arrived from Christchurch on .Saturday night and is completing the arrangements for the camp. There will be a dry canteen in camp for the men’s convenience open at sta ed hours. Lieut. PI. N. Herring of A Company having enlisted proceeds to Trentham early next month and will therefore not attend the Waitnhu Camp. Captain M. Lawn of “D” Company has also passed the Medical Board and offered hi s services. He expects to he attached to the Tunnelling Corps reinforcements at-an early date. As there is no train from Boss on Friday morning next territorials from Ross and Ruatapu will come to Hokitika on Thursday, and report to Sergf.-Major lAjtkins. They will he billeted at the Drill Hall “ till next morning. 'Any other country ii.-n similarly situated may also report on Thursday evening.
