Naar Pailiser BayWellington, Feb 24 The Mararoa, bound from Lyttelton to Wellington has wirelessed that the vessel went ashore near the entrance to the harbour, in a thick fog. It is unknown the exact locality, but it is bslieved to be in the vicinity of Pailiser Bay.

The tug Terawhaiti is proceeding immediately.

Business Science Circle-

Palmerston North, Feb 21

Following on the 'lectures delivered here recently by Mr Andrew Daere of Sydney, the formal organisation of a business science circle was accomplished last night. The local committee and other interested’ gentlemsu met in the Employers’ Association rooms, and over twenty business end professional men signed the roster, lb was decided to supplement the monthly meeting presided over by the visiting lecturer, and members will meet every two months to study the underlying laws of personal efficiency. The officers for the ensuing term are Messrs N. H. Sinclair (president), O. F. Spooner (vics*.pre3ideut), and J. C. Young (eecretaiy).

Strike Settled

Auckland. Feb 21

The strike of Ghamber hands in the employ of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company and Westerfield Freezing Company has been settled, and the men will resume work tomorrow morniDg,

The bands tffruck on Wednesday last, owing to their demands for higher wages not being acceded to. Efforts to settle the dispute by conciliatory methods were abortive until yesterday and in the meantime the works of both companies at Southdown, Horotiu and Westerfield had to be closed down, throwing out of work over 200 employees other than the chamber handß. At the instance of the Minister of Industries and Commerce the Board of Trade, the members of which are at present in Auckland, negotiated with the parties, with a view of endeavouring <to effect a settlement. Yesterday, as a result of these negotiations, the employers and man signed an agreement to refer all the matters in dispute to the Labour Disputes Committee to be set up uader the Labour Disputes Investigation Act, 1913,tb9 Mayor (Mr Gunson) consenting to act as chairman. The parties agreed to accept the committee’s decision on all points a 3 binding. It farther was agreed that the committee’s decision shall be retrospective to the date when work is resumed. The first meeting of the committee will be held tomorrow.
