The Board met at 8 p.m. Present —Measis A. Cl.fion (Chairman) K. Wild, T. W. Brace, J, A Murdoch, H Norman, J. Gnmmond, A. flutchijon, and F. McGregor.

Ths miunttm of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspoudencs read and approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Public Works Department, Qtira forwarding £37 10/0, quarterly payment towards Otira Hospital.— Received. From a resident of Rimn asking acceptance of £3 in settlement of maintenance account.—Received and ac-

cepted.

From Dr Yalintine, Wellington in reference to appointment of medical officer at Ross, and stating he knew of none available.—Received.

From Lewis and Wells, op-nioD on powers of the Board.—Received. From Postal Department Wellington, approval of opening ox telephone office at Waikukupa. —Received ; promptness of the Department and assistance of the local Post Office officers to be acknowledged.

From Dr Valintine, Wellington, asking farther information of intention of Board in reference to maternity

cases—Received.

From Resident Engineer, Otira, enquiring B 3 to attendance of medical officer at Otira.—Received.

From Inspector General, Hospitals Wellington stating no claims for snbeidy on Christmas gifts could be reetgnised—Received. From Dr Edie, Kumara, enquiring as to amount of salary in dispute.— Received.

From Nurse Maclachlan, Sjuth Westland, re fees and holidays.—Rsceived, referred to District Committee to arrange fees, usual holiday to be allowed at end of 12 months service.

From Wellington Board forwarding copy of remits carried at conference on hospital supplies.—Received, consideration deferred.

From Wellington Board notifying admission of patient from Westland at Otaki Sanatorium—Received. From Kamara Committee forwarding £59 15/10 receipts, £7O 16/9 accounts —Received.

From Dr Fleming, Kamara, notifying he had taken np his duties at Kumara. —Received.

The report of the Acting Secretary

on minor repairs to the residence at Kumara was received and referred to Kamara Committee. From Totara Committee enclosing accounts £3O 16/ aod conveying resolutions passed at conference with Chairman.—Received. From Dr Clayton, a/o for visit to Hari Hari. —Received, referred to Totara Committee.

From Otira Committee, forwatdiug accounts, £26 4/6, and one'ining complaints against charges nude to subscribers by Dr Fleming, and asking for decision of Board oo matter.— Received. After discussion it vsas resolved to ask the Hon W. Fraser to meet the Board and representatives of (Otira Committee to diseuss the whole question on his approaching visit to Westland end the Otira C.immittee be notified accordingly. From Hospitals Department, Wellington, notifying early visit of Dr Leathern to inspect X-cpy piauts.— Received. Mr Murdoch moved that the attention of the Department be drawn to the shortage of medical officers and that th 6 Bo>rd protests against the employment of si maxy medical men ia tnw service! w u en there was such a shortage of medical officers in the Dominion.—Seconded by the Chairman and agreed io. REPORTS, From Treasurer reporting reoeipts £538 7/0, payment £551 10/6, balance £IB6B 5/2 —Received. From Surgeon Superintendent, Westland Hospital reporting patients on 31at December were 41, bdmitted daring January 12 males 5 females. Total treated 43 males 15 females—58. Discharged cured 4 males 4 females, relieved 2 males, 1 female, died 4 males, Total discharged 10 males, 5 females —15. In hospital 31st Jan, 33 males, 10 females—43. In hospital for two months 22 males 4 females—26—Received.

From Surgeon Superintendent Kumara Hospital, reporting on let January,there were 29 patients, discharged 2, remaining in hospital 31st January, 27, —Received.

From Finance Committee, recommending payment of accounts amounting to £ll3B 1/4. —Received and
