VALEEUTORY.
A pleasing ceremony eventuated at the local Lands and Survey Office yesterday afternoon when the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr Brook) and members of the staff assembled to bid farewell to Mr F. Sandford, who leaves this morning to take up liis new position at Wellington. Mr Brook tex-, pressed the regret felt at tlie loss <n Mr Sandford, and conveped to him the best wishes of lie staff for his futu.» welfare.- At the same time the Chief said they all hoped to learn that Mrs Sandford’s health was much improved. The remarks were supplemented by Messrs A. ITarrop and R. King, members of the staff, and Messrs Park, IV. Wilson and C. Sellers on behalf < r clients having business relations with the office. The whole of the speake, eulogised Mr Sandford for his courtesy and ability in the discharge of ins duties as chief clerk. Mr Sandford was presented with a token of regard. The recipient acknowledged the gift and thanked the assemblage for their complimentary remarks, and the gathering dispersed.
