USE OF MOTOR CARS.
The utility of toe motor in desert warfare is illustrated by a noteworthy exploit of thß car batteries ea-fc of tha Suez Canal.
Three armoured cars, two light cars with machine-guns, and twelve other cars carrying petrol and left to make a reconnaissance. The armoured ears ran 400 miles in fiftythree hours, including time spent in bivouacs, and for more than 350 miles they carried every ounce of supplies. There was only one puncture on the way back. But nowadays tbe cars go anywhere and everywhere, British cars have seen service and rendered magnificent assistance to tbe Russians in Armenia. They have been reported virtually from every part of the Russian front, including (he mountain sectors. A few weeks ago a Russian communique made reference to the Bplendid woik of “ tbe famous British armoured motor-cars ” in Rumania, where they were a tower of strength during the fightiog around Rimnic.
Cars are operating largely now in Macedonia, in spite of the fact that the roads are atrocious. Indeed, the use of the motor-car and the motor lorry, whether armoured or unarmoured, is one of tbe most remarkable features of the great war. One was prepared for the extensive employment of cars in well roaaed countries like France, but the surprising development has been the adaptation of the automobile for service over surfaces that a couple of years ago would have been considered absolutely prohibitive.
