HIGH HANDED GERMANY.
Demand on Mr Gerard. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter.) (Received Feb 13, at 9.20 a.m.) New York, Feb 12 The United Press Berlin correspondent haa arrived at Berne with Mr Gerard. He telegraphs that Germany demanded (bat Mr Gerard sign a treaty gourai.t: eirg German chips stall leave American harlots in the event of war, and threatened to hold the correspon* dents as hostages, unless Mr Gerard signed. MrGsiard refused, declaring that if Americans were held, it would be a casus belli. Germany granted tbe correspondents their pa sports, four hours before the train departed. Submarina Orders. Washington, Feb 11 Mr Lantiag says he has not heard of any communication from Germany regarding mollification of submarine orders.
