The Scheme.
LONDON, Feb. 6. Sir Chamberlain's scheme prorates for a. subsistence allowance of 2s 6d pei day for volunteers out of work and a grant of 3s 6d daily for four weeks is the rate of pay for the natnional volunteers, which is the rate for their job. It might be higher or lower than the one they are accustomed to .
Mr Chamberlain added that each must take his luck just as our soldiers did.
It was impossible to indicate at present the lines upon which the national industries would proceed. There certainly would be some restrictions in the less essential occupations, biit sharing mnehinry plants with labour should enable the trades to maintain prosperity after flic war.

LONDON, Feb. 6. Owing to the stoppage of shipments of Scandinavian and Dutch butter, margarine prices and Colonial butter are raised about eight shillings. This quotation shews that normal supplies are practically exhausted, pending the arrival of several due steamers. 'LONDON, Fob. 6. Bread is raised to elevenpence.

Tlio American Marconi Company, in the event of an emergency will place its entire organisation, plant and workshops at the Government’s disposal. It has six high-power stations in the States, two at Hawaii, and sixty coast stations on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts.
