WELLINGTON, Feb. b. A wireless message from Capjtbin Davis reads as follows: “The Aurora arrived at Cape Evans all well on January 10th, and relieved sovon surviving members of Shackioton’s expedition: namely, Stevens, Jojce, Cape, Wild, Richards, Gage and Jack, who were found all well. “I regret to report that during tho second year of tho expedition A. P. Spencer'Smith died of scurvy on tha Barrier on March 9th, 1916; Captain Macintosh and V. G. Hayward porished on May Bth, 1916, being overtaken bv a blizzard, which broke up the sea ice over which they were attempting to cross from Hut Point to Capo Evans. “The Aurora left McMurdo Sound on January 19th and should arrive in Wellington about February 10th. “Tho next-of-kin of Mr Smith is his mother, 51 Palace Street, Westminster, London; Captain Macintosh’s wife is. An Order-in-Council Gazetted to-niglit ! contained regulations governing ilia coal trado, under which tho Minister in charge is empowered to require any person to give his information relative to the production, importation, exportation, supply, sale, purchase, carriage, storage, use and consumption of coai. In older to make adequate provision for storage of coal required for liis Majesty, or for essential industries th# Minister may tako possession of any coal hulk, wharft or other place dcornea necessary for storage, whether the coal stored be the property of the Crown or not The regulations extend to the StateCoal Mines, Government Railways, transports or other vessels in the King's service, and to all government depcand officers in the same manner as to private industries and persons. Tho Minister in charge may exempt lignite coal from the requirements ot these regulations. The regulations come into forco fortnwitli, and no person shall ship or import coal without the Minister’s permit. , The Hon. Mr Myers has been appointed Minister in charge, and Messrs A. H. Miles, Alexander Mclntosh and George Wilson, of Wellington, are appointed to act as members of tho Coal Trade Cimmitteo to assist tho Minister in tho administration of the regulations. Supreme Court Auckland, Fab 5 At th. 3 Supreme Court to-day David Cawrleu pleaded guilty to an offence against a male. Sentence was deferred till Saturday. Tbs jury returned a verdict of not guilty in the case of Thomas Cameron* charged with an unnatural offence. Cyril George Pegg, alias Enright, was found guilty of stealing a quantity of jewellery, valued at over £SO and £4B 10/ in money from bedrooms iD one of the city hotels. Sentence wes deferred; Tribute to Dr SVecFlab. Auckland, Feb 5 The Grand Jury to-day carried a motion endorsing Mr Justice Hoskin’a tribute to the late Dr McNab and expressed ita sense of tbe logs that tbe Dominion has Buffered through tha death of a statesman of grrat professional attainment, a man who was not only possessed of great natural ability, but one whose high seace of duty to his country has left a life’s work of example and of services well done for thos6 following him.
