The law is usually credited with being slow in operation, says the “New Zealand Herald," but a case which came before the Court yesterday proved that it can move with rapidity on occasions. It is interesting to record that Mrs Smith of Hampden Street mentioned above, has now knitted 221 pairs of socks for the soldiers, a labor of love for the men at the front, it would be hard to equal in any part of New Zealand.
A one time resident of the West Coast, Augustus Sullivan, who recently removed to Wellington, was before the Magistrate's Court of that city on Friday for failing to notify the military authorities of his change of address as required by section 43 of the Military Service Act. Mr H. it. O’Leary, who repre« sented the defendant, stated that Sullivan had notified the postal authorities, but not the Government Statistician of his change of address.
