Increase in Values
The Hon Arthur M, Myer?, Minister of Custom?, has furnished the following figures showing New Zealand’s external trade for the calendar year 1916, as compared with 1915. The value of goods, produce, etc. exported during 1916 amounted to £33,286,937, which, compared with 1915 (£31,748,912), shows a vary Bubstaatial increase of £1,538,025, The value of goods, etc., imported during 1916 a'ao increased considerably, being £26,339,283 for 1916, as comparad with £21,728,834 for 1915, an inereaso of £4,610,449. This excess in value of impo. t?, Mr Myers points out, is wholly due to increased values of the good:? purchased as a ratorn which ha had prepared of tonnage of cargo for New Zealand on vas* eels arriving from overseas at each port indicates that, whereas 1,370,057 tons were landed at Ns w Zealand ports daring 1915, only 1,299,944 tans arrived during 1916—a decrease of 70,113 tons.
When compared with the 1914 figures (1,538,755 tons), the decrease during 1916 is more pronounced (238,811 toua). On the above figures the value of total trade per head works out approximately 19/ per head and exports £3O 5/ per head. Tbe corresponding figures for 101-5 were: —
It will be se3n that the value of the total trade per head shows a large increase for 1916 computed with the previous year.
