WAR FUNDS
Meeting of National Council A meeting of the War Funds Council was held at Wellington on Friday, the Hon Q, W. Ra?sell (Minister, of Internal Affairs) presiding. Representatives were present from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargil. The disposition of a aura of £22.000 in the hands of the council was considered, and it was decided to place the major part of the snm on fixed deposit, a balance being retained for present requirementa.
Correspondence was read regarding the administration of Westland patriotic funds, entreated to the Oounoil by the Westland Patriotic Society. The work was repoited to be proceeding smoothly under the direction of local committees. A suggestion that the Council should take steps in the direction of placing returned soldiers on the land was discussed, and action was deferred, pending the development
of the Government’s scheme?. The Bul ! «r Patriotic Soci&ty wrote inviting the Council to tike over the work in the Bailer district, on the lines of the arrangement already made in Westland. The Council decided to act in accordance with the request of the Society. It was decided that funds should be provided for the purchase of three invalid chairs tor the use of returned soldiers in the hospitals,
