Potato Prices. LONDON, Jan. IS. The town bellman at 'Whitehaven urged tho public not to pay moro than one shilling per stono for potatoes. A crowd of women carrying flags compelled sellers to comply and sang patriotic songs to celebrate their victory.
Protectorate Recognised. WASHINGTON, Jan. 18. Franco’s Prbtectorato over Morocco has been recognised in a Note handed to Ambassador Jusserend to-day by Mr Lansing (United States Foreign Secretary). Negotiation.? have been proceeding for five years.
Matches. SYDNEY, Jan. 19. Advices have been received that the Imperial Government have taken over Tnimer’s match match factory in -England, from where the bulk of the Australian supplies of wooden matches is obtained. All contracts are being cancelled, and this is causing uneasiness as to supplies, though the effect is not likely to be felt in the near future owing to heavy socks being hold.
