■■ ♦ Shipping News Restricted. .The following new regulation in re-

gwd to the publication of shipping news was gazetted on Tuesday : 1. No person shall, without the written consent of a military authority.

publish or causa ot permit to be published in a newspaper any statement or indication aa to the movements,

■whereabouts, cargo, or employment of ■any ship engaged or about to be engaged in any voyage the course of which lies wholly or partially to the north of the Equator, or any information as to any such ship, which if known to the enemy might be a source of danger to that ship, or might otherwise be of use to the enemy.

2. No person shall except in the course of his lawful business in relation to any such ship as aforesaid, send or cause to be sent ont of New Zealand by means of any telegram, letter, or otherwise howsoever any such statement, indication, or information as aforesaid with respect to that ship. 8. Nothing in these regulations shall make it an offence to publish in New Zealand.

(a) Any matter contained in a newspaper printed in the United Kingdom after the 23rd day oi December, 1916, and received in New Zealand prior to the publication there of suet matter; or (b) Any matter transmitted tc New Zealand by telegram from a recognised Pross Agency ir the United Kingdom, and pass ed for publication in a news paper by the censors of tele' graphic messages; or (c) Any information aa to shinning casualties. 4. These regulations shall be deem' ed part of and read togetner with th< War Regulations of the 10th day oi November, 1914.
