It w*s agreed to set up a committee consisting of the chairman and Mo era B-.nks, Andrews and Howard, to re- , port cn the question of the appointment of travelling inspectors or teachers with a view to organising the work in the smaller outlying school?.
The Greymouih District High School wrote in regard to the question of erecting commemorative tablets at the Greymouth High School ia connection with tbs amalgamation of districts, After discussion it was decided to refer the matter to the Buildings committee for consideration and report.
Resignations accepted included : Oobden, Miss 1. Cornwall, assistant mistress j Oobden, Miss Li. • Taylor, probationer.
Transfers inoluded-Misa M. O’Donnell, from Dobsoa to Humphries, as assistant mistress; Miss T. Greaney, from Grey mouth to Paros. The transfers make provision for all the certificated teachers on the list. Miss M. Hogan, relieving at Callaghans, to Swede'B Mill as assistant. *
Appointments made included Miss E, J. Ensor as assistant mistress at Eoiterangi. Probationers were allotted, including the fallowing schools, Samara, Cobden, Taylorville, Ross. The Department notified that the expenditure of £530 oa a school ac Camerons was not warranted and asked the Board to ascertain what local assistance was forthcoming. It was resolved that plans be drawn for a two-roomed school to coat £3OO for building aud £SO for furniture and that a grant for this amjunt with £3O for the site ba applied for. Inspector Valentiae recommended that windows in the porch at Hokitika school be hinged for ventilation purposes. The foreman to oarry out the work.
Tenders to be called for the sale of the old site of Callaghaus School. The Foreman on the Coast is to report on the list of requirements for Hokitika School, totalling £250. lfc was decided to renew the applications to the Department for a special grant for repairs, etc., to Bchools in Grey district, extracts from Inspec.or Valentiua’e reports to be sent in support. After reading Inspector Valentine's reports it was decided to provide a skylight in the Otira School. To have the step and blinds at Upper Kokatahi School atteoded to by Foreman. To have Foreman attend io necessary repairs to outhouses at Koiterangi and renew frosting of windows. To have Effreman report on repairs to building tank and outhouse, and attention of Committee to be drawn to blackberries growing in grounds at Jacksons.
It was resolved that the Inspector’s report on Lower Kokatahi School be gent on to the Committee for explanation. It stated there are some broken panes in windows and blackerry threatens to take po&ssssion of part of the grounds. Note—Part of the school is occupied by a blacksmith named O’Brien aud it might be worth while ascertaining definitely the terms of L* s occupancy. I am not sure it is a good thing for the grounds to allow this
