“ Maria Rosa,” Tuesday. Geraldine Farrar on the screen is a name to conjure with, and her first appearance in Hokitika will be on Tuesday at McLean's, in the Lasky Paramount adaptation of the famous play, “ Maria Ross,” and should arousd public interest. This is the third picture which this actress has appeared in since she forsook the operatio stage for pictures. The others of the trio are ‘‘Carmen” and “ Temptation,” both of which created an impression in America, and indicated that what had been a loss to the legitimate stage had been an undoubted earn to the motion picture world. Geraldine Farrar, previous to going into pictures, was the grand opera star at the Metropolitan Theatre, New York. In “ Maria Rosa ” she has made a deep impression, it is said, as Maria Ro3a, the beautiful Spanish maiden who is loved by two men (friends). One, the rejected suitor, kills a dear friend of tha family with Andres’s knife, and Andres, Maria Rosa’s lover, i 3 accused of the crime and sent to prison, leavmg his sweetheart in th 9 care of bis false friend. The picture is said to ba intensely dramatic. There ara several exciting scenes, such as the fight in the market-place, the scene in the last act when Andres returns from prison to find his loved one the wife of another, and the finels, showing the terrific struggle between Maria Rosa and Ramon, when she discovers his villainy.
