Jubilee MeetingThe Jnbles meeting of tbs Wcetland Racing Club is to eventuate on Monday anti Tuesday, and both days will be kept as high holiday throughout Westland. The Club bus made every preparation for .the meeting, and the historic event ehou'd pass off with considerable eclat. The Club has lately carried out extensive improvements to the coarse aud giound, aud also for the approaching . meeting offered record stakes. The enterptise has resulted in a long string of horses being attracted to the meeting, and the public should enjoy some good sport.. The first, race on Monday is timed to start at 1k.50. There are eight events each day, including two trotting races which will add variety to the afternoon’s sport. Mr H. Lynch will ho in charge of the totalisator, and it view of the importance of the meeting the s'aff has been augmented eo that patrons will'be readily dealt with. The local band will b 8 in attendance bath days to add to ths harmony of the meeting. The additional stand and ground accommodation will be welcomed by visitn.s, who will have freer access to move about. There are now two saddling paddocks, the former space being reeerved for tbe race horses, for which forty boxes aud stalls have been provided, and a new and larger space for the trotting horses, for which some twenty-five new stalls have also been provided. Water and other conveniences ere provided, so that owners and tminers will find their charges well cared for in the Club’s arrangements. Good accommodation is also provided for tbe jockeys, and for owners, trainers and jockeys part of the now stand is specially reserved for their personal use.
Trainers and others who have visited the race-course during the last day or two have expressed surprise at the scope of the recent improvements, and the admirable scheme which bus been carried out ia such full details, They speak very Highly of all the appointments. Owners are surprised to find the racing track so much improved,* while tb9 fina sward of clover minimises any hardeess likely to result from the dryness of the weather. The widening and. extension of the straight at the mile post i 3 specially commented on as being one of the improvements mado. The public will have an opportunity of inspecting all thase works in detail on Monday and Tuesday, and from all accounts they will readily join in the general chorus of praise being showered on the Westland Racing Club in the enterprise displayed to make the jubilee of the Club a thoroughly memorable event.
