OTIRA TUNNEL POWER.

A Suggestion Made(Special to Guardian.) Wellington, Jan 5 Mr J. A. Murdoch, Mayor of Kumara, interviewed Hon W. D. S. MacDonald, Minister of Mines to-day, urging Government to proceed with the construction of a power station and electrioal transmission line from the Taramakau pipe line at Kumar* to Otira Tunnel, and he was astonished to learn that the Government had been advised that the Kumara reservoirs and water supply were not sufficient for the purpose. The reports are confidential and are not available to the public. Owing to the gro<s inaccuracy and misleading nature of such a report, Mr Murdoch made a strong protest and the Minister of Mines has now promised a further investigation.

Subsequently Mr Murdoch interviewed Mr Parry, Chief Engineer, who will vis’t the Coast and make enquiries personally, as to the water available, before Cabinet makes the foal decision,
