ST. STEPHEN'S TENNIS SOCIAL.

A very successful flannel social was held by the members of .'.St.-Stephen's Tennis Club in the Ohureh Hall last Saturday evening. The hall was tastely decorated and an enjoyable time was spent, when over sixty metmJbers and friends assembled together. The guests of honour weTe Mr. and" Mrs;. H. W. Kersley and daughter who have recently returned from a visit overseas. Mr. G. Clark, the club captain, acted in tie capacity: of M.C. Miss 8,. Judd Njontribiited an elocutionary item. After a "community sing" everybody joined in the numerous games and competitions which were thoroughly appreciated. A pleasant surprise lay' in store for all |. w^.en the president, Mr^ F. Teisi; called "on the founder of St. Stephen^ Tennis 'Courts (Mrs. H. W. Kersley) to,say a 'feiw-.^wordi- Mrs. KeWley after briefly 1 stetcihing the history of the tennis j eburtsy presented the clu.ib <\ with :two Tiandsbilie silver cups, the miniatures of w^ich would be, at the close of the 'tennis season, presented to the' "best lady and gentleman player. Mr: Leslie j Will, secretary, on behalf .of the club, thanked Mrs. Kersley for h©T magnificent gifts. Mr; ¥. Feist also thanked the donor andat the same time generously , made the gift, of supplying the timbier required for the club's new payilion. Mr. G. Clark and Mr. H. J . Babington, club captain and treasurer ' respectively, both spoke feelingly on' ( (behalf of the members and expressed j the grateful sentiments of all present. The Bey. J. E. Lopdell spoke also about the great work on t»he tennis courts and | presented medals to Miss Irene Calender and Mr. L. Fisher —last year's .champions. Supper was seTved by the ladies and '. ' Auld Lang Syne f» closed ion aaa evening full of happy memories.
