ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.

A meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board was held last week. There ■were present Mr E. Windier (chairman) and Messrs J. W. McEwan, W. H. P. Barber, E. Walker, A. Anderson, A. .J. Hobbs, A. -3. McCurdy.

Leave of absence was granted to Messrs L. Stewart, 11. W. Lawience and A. W. Press.

The Engineer-Genneral Manager (Mr E. F. Hollands) reported as follows: —

A month's trial with the new system of collecting depots has been completed and the work of the collectors has been carried out satisfactorily. .The new system appears to be appreciated by our consumers. •

Applications for Community Lighting, are being received from shopkeepers in Lower Hutt and two blocks will be. commenced as soon as .the material arrives.

Tree trimming was carried ou£ in HorokHvi and Ohariu Valley.

Workshop Report:—Street light brack-ets-have been made up for the Jtore. Coloured festoons were hung on the Board's offices from September sth -to 15th,, and two large reflectors mounted on the front of the building. The new buildings have been wired, the Test Room 'building being complete end a start made on the new garage. The panels at Taita substation have been overhauled and cleaned, and transformer, oil filtered and stored for future requirements. The pipe handrail for Market Street Substation has been mai?e up, and the meter bt.x for this substation is nearly completed. One 150 X.V.A. transformer was sent out to Hume Steel Substation and the cable box for the sefviee was iitiel'in the Worksho.; Kelm&&- switches from Taita Substation. 'sc-rp reeonditioiiPd and re-issue'l to Totv Street, and Hume Steel Co's Substation Test Room Report:—lß7 meters were tested and 202 meters were issued for installation.. Consumers' readings, disconnections/ faults, etc, amounted to 275. The testing of water heaters on consumers ' premises was-stopped on September 15th to- get stocks of meters sufficient to carry over during the period of shifting the test room. 45 water heaters were tested for contractors prior to installation. X.V.A. and power factor readings have been taken at W. D. and H. O. Will's factory, Petone, also Power, factor readings at Petone Cordage Works and Lever Bros Ltd. All meter stocks:have been transferred to the new test room and arrangements are in hand to. shift the test bench. Services run for period:—Lower Hutt '34; Petone 12; Eastbourne 9; Upper flutt 7; Western Area 8. Total 70. Twenty-three poles weive erected for period. : ... ". ' ' ' Inspection X)epartment:-r-Re-inspec-tion work, has .been completed in the Bays. District in the meantime, and -a start has been made at Upper Hutt, this being the next district for attention. The number of premises re-inspected £ or the period is 74, and notices of defects were sent out on 53 of the above installations. 73 new installations were tested for the period and 73 tests were carried out on additions 'to existing installatipns.
