Thouie who saw the recent Handeraift Exhiibition ie-ld in conrieetion with the DomiriLoa Gonfetcnee, confessed themselves amazed alt the variety of articles, the materials used, and the ingenuity s displayed,-and as a result several applications for membership have been received by local institutes. Stokes Valley Women's Institute held its October meotin'g at the, home ■of MessTs B. A. ltough. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Huse, vicepresident, read the Institutes "Aspirations '' and welcomed two new memibers. Remits for the half-yearly conference at Shannon, were discussed and members uTidertook to paTticipato in the potato competition for the Crawford Shield. Mrs. Huse, in domonstratin'g the art of smockia-g, showed some wonderfully dainty examples done on frocks made from dyed flour 'bags. • . The funds of this Institute, should benefiit considerably as the result of a most successful dance, organised iby Mesdaimes Summers, Huse and Hurney, and held in the local hMI on Saturday evening last., .Mr. Harry S.t. Johnetone was almost efficient M. C. and the proceedings went with a swing from start to finish. .. . Durinig supper, the President, Mrs Hawthorn, thanked on behalf of the Stokes Valley Women's Institute^ all the evening.
