iiiiiaer, garage'wan of Gopher City. Kanaasy departs-for. Hollywood as the manager of Elvira, chosen as "Miss Gopher City" by the Chamber of- Commerce. He intends to .launch 'her to fame iv. the movies. The heroine's mother goes along. On. the <tTain they meet/a nibvie star returning to work after personal appearances in the East/ and he promises to help. Arrived in Holiwv/ood, he gets Elvira tin extra's job, and Elmer a job driving a studio cur. Elvira isn't, interested in beconv ing a star, but "Ma ']' insists.

Elmer is' "spotted" at a premiere by -the anaster of ceremonies, lured to . the stage, and kidded, under the impression that he's a' new cemedian of the screen. "Ma" dxags Elvira out of the theatre in a huff, vowing that he's disgraced them. Later he is called on to drive Elvira in a studio car to a Hollywood party, and the star, she met on the train insults her. A . fight- with Elmer results. The star then- realises that he's been a <cad, and that he really loves the girl. Meantime Elmer ?s appearance at the tlieafcro has attracted the attention of a comedy director, who casts him in a ploy, aiul he scores a comic-success. Inidentally he gets "Ma" into the cast at* character womani ' ' i Elvira approaches thean to announce tiua-t eke doesn't waint to be in the movies, but wants to marry the movie s?tar. She does and is happy, and Elmer and "Ma" carry on together iii : tho inWies.
