VALEDICTORY SOCIAL AT WAIWHETU.

A very suecessfiul social evening was held in the Waiwetu Anglican Church Boom last Friday evening in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow Thompson, who have taken a very active interest in the church work during their residence in the district and are about to leave for Ghrist'church.

Mr. R. G. House, the People's Church Warden at St. James % 'briefly spoke of the valuable services of Mr. Thoinp-. son as a member of th Vstry and as the representative of the Wai whetu Church. "Whilst congratulating-Mr and Mrs. Thompson on their promotion, Mr Hoi^se expressed the regrets of the '.memibers of the Vestry at the loss of ;two such, valuable workers. N

The Vicar, Archdeacon Hanse'il, said that both Mr and Mrs, Thompson' had been- of. enormous help to the church at Waiwetuj they had each ■■*<..!ked in so many ways, and it would, be ilv^lcnlt to .find any "one to take"'.their "place: Mrs. Thompson had been lint ', ring in ;hcr efforts to organise jumble sales and had assisted in many other ways. Mr Thompson had taken a keen iti-corest in tlur building of the annex to .the churchroom and had been -instrumental in establishing the ''Parish News'•' which, had proved itself to be a groat success. The vicar expressed regret at losing such valuable worker^ -Mid wished them every success in their new home, where he felt sure they would soon attach themselves to another chairch' and continue to carry on thie great work. On behalf of the Vestry s rid their many friends he presented to Mr and iMisr Thompson a -handsome plated, caserole and Mrs. Thompson received from the Ladies' Guild a handsome piece of needlework. ...

After tho guests of the evening had been gii'Cted, with musical honours, they feelingly replied and spoke of their pleasant recollections and of the many friends they had made duri-% their residence in Waiwetu.

A veiy pleasant time was spent wit-h dancing and. niusic.
