PLUNKET SOCIETY.

TAITA SUB-COMMITTEE

A Bring and Buy Afternoon held in the Taita Hall in aid of the Taita Plunket Society on Septenaiber 1-Stii, proved most successfid. The sale was oppned at 2 o'clock and ."business proved very brisk. The following were the stall-holders: —Produce, Mesdames Foley and Wilson; Needlework, Mesdames McArthur and Fuge; Cakes, Mesdames Martin and Goodman; Afternoon Tea Eooins," Mesdames Kitchener and Clegg. ice €ream, Mts. Johnstone. Masters Jack Ritchie and Melvin Cade rendered great assistance toy running a very successful competition. These 'boys ware ■'the centre of attraction for all the young folk.

During the atCtcrnooh Miss Lucy Drummond ... entertained those present with a humorous recitation..which received a very hearty encore to which she. responded graciously.

A. feature: of the afternoon was a competition organised by Mi-B I. Wilson who donated prizes for the best and second ibest article made from a sugar bag. Thi? competition was very keenly contested, there being many and varied entries both/artistic and useful. Great inteTes-t.was displayed and much knowledge gained by those present with regard to tlug possibilities; of a sugar bag. The first prize was awarded Mrs BUmister for hejr most attractive and unusual peg-bag, and the second waa igained by Mrs Silk with a beautifully worked 1 pair of slippers. -

"Various other 'successful competitions were run and altogether the whole fninction went with a swing from two o'clock Timtil closing time. •

The committee would like to take •this opportunity of thanking all those whose gifts helped to make the afternoon the financial success it undoubtedly was. . .
